There´s an obligation to write an essay (7-10 p) for the course of Theories of Modern Societies. The deadline is on the 15th of January and we have plenty of time - more than 3 months. But yesterday, a good idea for a conclusive paragraph popped into my mind. As good ideas sometimes tend to leave as soon as they come, I typed it in quickly. It will be clear in a time being whether the paragraph was useful or the facts from different reports and documents will disprove it.
It also reminds me to retrieve a few good guidelines on writing essays and dissertations - especially, what concerns the psychological aspect of this process. I´ve mentioned Roberts´ Dissertation Journey already, but there are probably some more good resources (if I'll find any, I´ll link those here, too, it´s a promise). I´m quite curious in this issue;)
Another idea. The "publishing landscape" requires articles in English. The dissertation must also be written in the same language. So - instead of writing those articles and paper in Estonian and translating them afterwards (like most of students in Estonia do in case of summary for master thesises), would it be more useful to write everything, since the very first sentence, in English? On one hand, the process of writing the articles would be somewhat slowlier, but on the other hand I don´t have to think about proper sentence constructions for 2 languages... Most of the useful resources are in English anyway...

Usun, et juhul kui dok. töö plaanid esitada inglise keeles, siis on mõttekas kirjutadagi kohe inglise keeles. Kahe keele loogika on niivõrd erinev ja kohe ingliskeelse teksti produtseerimine on lõppkokkuvõttes kergem. Ka tulemus jääb kenam, sest tõlgitud teksti puhul jääb enamasti väga läbi kumama originaalkeele loogika ning see tihtipeale häirib. Seda enam on mõttekas kirjutada kohe inglise keeles, kui suurem osa materjalist on niikuinii juba inglise keelne - jääb ära tobe topelttõlkimine (inglise-eesti-inglise). Ise ilmselt teen ka oma dissertatsiooni inglise keelse. Boonuseks on minu valdkonna (gender studies) puhul veel see, et eesti keeles puudub korrektne terminoloogia (kuigi see tähendab muidugi head võimalust ja vajadust vastav terminoloogia luua) ja teiseks, ma olen oma eriala õppinud inglise keelses koolis ning kahjuks on mul tihtipeale hirmus raske erialaseid mõtteid emakeeles väljendada. Kurb, aga ilmselt paratamatu.
Just, originaalkeele loogika läbikumamine ja topelttõlkimine tegidki mulle muret. Ehkki oleks uhke eesti keeles kirjutada (mida võib teha ehk siiski teises järjekorras)..
